DOCTRINAL DEVELOPMENT

Unit Description

This module is the next building block towards discipleship. The path established in the first module now leads to more concentrated studies. Since the biblical devotional life is not built on philosophy, but on the person of Christ, this module concentrates on knowing who Jesus is. This is achieved by examining what the Bible say about the Messiah; specifically, from the gospel of John because it deals with many intimate details of Jesus’s life. The study of the Gospel of John addresses the important prerequisite to heaven. This is the importance of being “born again.” Consequently, the module addresses the Christian new life and further explains deeper walk with Christ. The only compass that directs Christians to the only Way to heaven is, of course, the Holy Spirit as He reveals His plan in the Holy Bible. It shows God’s love to mankind and the consequences of sin, but also the promises of eternal life to those who are born again. Love is one facet of God’s person. Therefore, love is to be expressed in the community. The topics mentioned above address issues that are imperative to character development which will be discussed in the following module. A Christlike person will want to serve Jesus, and make Him known in his or her church and also outside. This is done by teaching and personal evangelism. The Christian will consider his or her church as a family and realise that he or she need others and others need to him or her, to support each other in growing in Christlikeness, that discipleship.
