Service Development

Unit Description

The final module of this course discusses the final outcome which is expected as a result of a life practicing spiritual disciplines. Devotions (module one) disciplines Christians in the disciplines of prayer and worship, love toward the reading and studying the Bible, and Holy Spirit led lifestyle. As believers learn biblical doctrines, (module two) they will adapt their life according to the patterns they teach. Mainly, imitating the Life of Christ as they read it the gospels and the teachings for the church found in the letters. The historical events are living examples of what people experience when the obey, or not obey the Word of God. Topics such the study of the Gospel of John and the Life of Christ leads Christians to appreciate the love of God towards man, the importance of being born again, and the works of Christ and how He can be of help in their daily life, as believers allow Him to rule their life. Christians will understand the importance of showing love to others (such their enemies) as a result. Naturally, this involves a personal choice, the outcome of a strong Christian character (third module). Here the believer will lead that God designs the world. People live together, and they need a law to keep them living in order. Christian ethics is in a way the principles (laws) that God gave to man so that they can live a life of loving and forgiving each other, just like Christ did. In order to love the way God expects, one needs to serve his community. Therefore, the disciplines concerning service would be the next step (module four). Basically, this is the practice of the principle learned in the previous modules. The topic What Churches Do will describe the communal life of the church. Evangelicals and Pentecostals believe in the community church and personal relationship between its members. Consequently, Christians use their God given Spiritual gifts and natural talents to help and encourage one another (such as in team-work). This is done in several ways described in the topic. Nevertheless, the church has the community at large to care for as well. This community is reached through evangelism and by offering assistance to the suffering, despaired and without hope. The Believers share their experience of the “blessed hope” which can only be found in Jesus.

Competences

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to: a) Participate in the develpment of God’s family. b) Justify why the primitive church was dedicated to service. c) Exhibit discipline of service. d) Participate in leading Bible Studes e) Internelize practices that develope Christlike behaviours f) Appriciates the needs of others. g) Respect others indiferences while appriciating their needs.

Knowledge

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have been exposed to the following: a) State how God commissions a person to work for Him. b) Describe basic topics of spiritual disciplines. c) List several community needs d) Match spiritual gifts and talents with community needs and wants. e) Recognize their limitations in the problem areas. f) Identify persons with qualifications to assist beyond their limitations. g) Describe to the community why Jesus is the Answer

Knowledge and Understanding - Application

a) Apply principles learned to everyday life’s problems b) Demonstrate the applications learned in different scenarios. c) Participate in discussions concerning the service attitude of Christ. d) Construct a plan to with other church members to serve their community. e) Identify social needs on the comunity f) Operate their Spritual gifts and talents in their and community. g) Compose an essay describing God’s part in giving the church ministry gifts.

Judgment Skills

At the end of the module/unit the learner will have acquired the following skills: a) Anaylse the concept of biblical servanthood. b) Categorize the different gifts and talents of the church. c) Analyze the social and spiriutal needs of their town or city. d) Select people to form a team of helpers for specific needs. e) Examine if their local church is in line with biblcal serventhood. f) Argue why biblical unethical amd immoral behaviors are labled as sin. g) Propose a reason why “examining” one’s faith is impertive to spiritual maturity.

Communication Skills

This section has been made sufficiently open to accommodate both vocational and academic orientations. Applicants can refer to Judgement Skills, or Critical Abilities (critical skills, dispositions, values and actions), or both. a) discuss the development of God’s family. b) illustrate the benefits of believers working together as a team. c) describe what attitudes servants should have towards themselves and others. d) state why Christian workers need to show love. e) name examples of the kinds of work church workers to do (serve in). f) express experiences of team work or the lack of it.

Specific Learning Skills

a) Speaking in public skills b) Decision making abilities prioritizing life goals c) Develop team-work aptitudes d) Lead groups in evangelistic services. e) Resolve conflicts in a church setting f) Collaborate with peers to serve the community

Specific Digital Skills and Competences

a) practice technological skills such using of word processing and the use of a style and format. b) Communicate by using mobile or tablet social media applications. c) Use of video software to engage peers and instructors.
